Frederick William “Willy” Weber was named for his grandfather, Frederick William Weber who had come to Texas from Bleckede, Germany about 1884. Willy was the third child of William Weber and Selma Zimmermann, being born September 11, 1932 at the Weber farmhouse near Cheapside, Texas. He rode a horse to school at the nearby Ruppert school and attended the Ruppert Lutheran Church. He stayed with his sister Erma Friedrich and brother-in-law Carl, to be able to attend high school as a Gonzales Apache where he played on the basketball team and a trumpet in the marching band. It was then that he met his lifelong sweetheart, Doris Jean Halliburton who was the cheerleader for the opposing Waelder Wildcat basketball team. His first jobs were on the farm, then mowing grass and a paperboy, then delivering Coca Cola from the bottling plant. He worked for Sinclair, living with his younger sister Hildegarde Wallace and brother-in-law Ben Roy in Pasadena, laying a pipeline from Pasadena to Liberty, Texas. He was called to service during the Korean Conflict and served in Intelligence and Operations in Alaska, monitoring the airspace from radar installations around Anchorage. Willy and Doris Jean were married on September 6, 1953 while on leave and their first home was in Anchorage, Alaska. After leaving the Army, Willy and Doris Jean made a home in Deer Park, Texas where they raised their three daughters. Willy worked at Shell Oil Refinery and the Lynchberg ferry, then earned an instrumentation certification from Lee College in Baytown. The remainder of his career was at Houston Lighting and Power where he advanced to Master Journeyman Instrument Technician. Upon retirement, he divided his time between the Weber Farm and Doris Jean’s Halliburton place at Elm Grove in Fayette County, growing peaches and watermelons, and keeping track of the rain gauge.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Halliburton Weber of Elm Grove, his sister Hildegarde Wallace of Houston, his three daughters: Sandra Jean Mahaffey and Curtis Floyd Mahaffey of Decatur TX, Bonnie Sue Percy of Casper WY, Melanie Gay Abruzzese and Ronald Vincent Abruzzese of Leander TX. His eleven grandchildren are Courtney Jean and Brian Guthrie, Candace Rae Mahaffey, Christy Lara and Chase McBride, William Vincent Abruzzese, Victoria Rose Abruzzese, Mariah Sue Percy, McKennah Lyn Percy, Andrea Ruth Winfrey, Jared Glen Percy, Colton Taylor Percy and Shiloh Kristine Percy. His great grandchildren are Nicklas Curtis Guthrie and Gary James McBride. Willy was known as Uncle Bill to his three nieces, Linda Carol, Brenda Star and Carla Dawn. He is preceded in death by his parents William Weber and Selma Zimmermann Weber, and his sister Erma Friedrich. Willy passed at his home with family attending on October 15, 2021.

Graveside services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in Ruppert Cemetery, near Cheapside, TX with Pastor Ildiko Rigney officiating. Pallbearers: Ronald Abruzzese, William Abruzzese, David Halliburton, Thomas Halliburton, Billie Joe Halliburton, and Andrew Castro. Memorials may be made to the Gonzales First Lutheran Church.
