Shelton "Red" Demmitt

Shelton “Red” Demmitt, 74, of London, was called to his Heavenly home Friday, October 15, 2021. The son of Wilber (Jack) and Leona Faye Apple Demmitt, born December 5, 1946 in Yell County, AR.  Red proudly served his beloved Country in the Vietnam War while enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. Red was a steadfast provider for his loving family making his living in the pipeline industry. Red worked for many years as an operator with Staid Pipeline before finally retiring from Hull Construction. 

When he wasn’t working, Red was spending time with the ones he loved. Family meant everything to him and he made sure no opportunities to congregate were missed. Cookouts, camping trips, 4-wheeling excursions, hiking, fishing, listening to classic country music, vacationing at his cabin and gardening were all hobbies he enjoyed, especially with family and close friends. Red’s yearly vegetable garden would rival any in Pope County and he always had tips and extra vegetables for those of us with less of a green thumb. Red was one of those dads that could fix anything, make anything and do everything, just ask his daughters.

After retirement he often wondered how he ever had time to work with the projects and “visions” from his girls. Red came by his name honestly, red headed with a fiery temper to match, numerous cell phones, weedeaters, and any equipment that dared not work on the first try met its demise.  The family later termed this behavior as getting Red Demmitted. 

Red was appointed chief caretaker of his beloved wife Debra’s roses and he never shirked that duty. Debra’s roses, like the love of her husband, have never faded.  We can take great comfort knowing Red and Deb are together again, growing beautiful roses in their Heavenly garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife Debra Lynette Demmitt, his parents; son, Mikie Reynolds; son-in-law, Kyle Childers. Survivors include: a brother Ray Demmitt (Ellen) of London, sister Jone Martin of Russellville, sister Wanda Epperson of London, sister Anitta Schwander (Mike) of Russellvilfle, a son, Marty Demmitt of Hot Springs, a daughter, Joann Demmitt of London, daughter Carrie Childers of London and a daughter-in-law Kyla Reynolds of Springdale. Grandchildren: Deme (Pa’s Angel) Reynolds, Zane Reynolds, Thad Reynolds, Quin Reynolds, and Jacob Wiley. One great-granddaughter,Scarlett Reynolds. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars #2283.
