Billy "Joe" Coleman of Cherryville, Missouri passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 in his home at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 10 days.

Joe was born February 5, 1933 in Prague, Oklahoma to Wheeler C. Coleman and Muriel Bessie Page Coleman. Joe grew up in Prague attending the local schools graduating from Keystone High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country honorably from 1952 to 1953. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he attended a mechanic trade school graduating from Oklahoma University. He eventually moved to St. Louis and while living there he attended Gateway Temple Church where he met the love of his life, Mary Frances Farmer. They were united in marriage on April 21, 1958 in St. Louis.

Joe was employed at McDonald Douglas for a couple of years and eventually went to work at University City Rambler, American Motors, where he was an auto mechanic. After several years, Joe retired in 1969. He and Mary moved to the Cherryville area where they lived the rest of their life. Joe was employed at the Cuba Police Department for a few years and eventually started working at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department from 1991 to 2001.

Joe attended Center Ridge Pentecostal Church. As a young man, Joe came to know the Lord, but after a few years ago during a revival, he rededicated his life while his son, Bob and grandson, Josh, were preaching. He was many times blessed by the Lord. He loved to talk to others about the Bible and what it meant to him.

During his life while living in Cherryville and working, he enjoyed spending time working on cars. Joe was a founding board member of the Cherryville Fire Department. Later in years, he loved watching Westerns, military movies, the History Channel and documentaries. He also enjoyed watching the birds and especially hummingbirds near their feeders. Most of all he loved his family, all of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the anticipation of the new babies on the way.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Coleman; his parents, Wheeler and Muriel Coleman; son, Billy Joe Coleman; brother, Charles Coleman; sister, Shirley (Jimmy) Blankenship; brothers-in-law, Lyndon Farmer, Brice Farmer, Dwight (Gladys) Farmer, David Firey and Frosty Vetteto; sisters-in-law, Betty (Ralph) Jones and Jenny Farmer; and four grandchildren.

He is survived by his six sons, Robert “Bob” (Carol) Coleman of Cherryville, MO, Rodney Coleman of Columbia, MO, Billy (Dena) Coleman of Steelville, MO, Randy (Brittany) Rebura of Wright City, MO, Ricky Rebura of Mansfield, MO and Ronnie (Heather) Rebura of Nixa, MO; seven daughters, Noma (Ron) Burkholder of OK, Mary (Butch) Brown of Bentonville, AR, Carol Thielemann of Cuba, MO, Tracy Case of Herman, MO, Bonita (Mike) Lottman of Union, MO, Retta Russell (companion Jeff Asher) of Viburnum, MO, and Misty (Larry) Harmon of Cherryville, MO; daughter-in-law, Eva Coleman of Roland, AR; sister, Leona Firey of OK; brothers-in-law, Richard (Joan) Farmer of St. Louis, MO, Forrest (Cathy) Farmer of KS, Ben (Betty) Farmer of Arnold, MO, Gary (Bonnie) Farmer of Poplar Bluff, MO and Patrick (Diane) Farmer of Pontoon Beach, IL;  sisters-in-law, Judy Jackson of St. Louis, MO, Glenda (Jerry) Ebert of Fruitland, MO and Marsha Coleman of OK; thirty-seven grandchildren, Joshua, D.J., Julie, Liz, Sam, Heather, Colt, Chase, Chance, Wendy, Sarah, Austin, Melissa, Penny, Natalie, Ariel, Samantha, Lorenzo, William, Dawson, Lacey, Noah, Mary, Chris, Lynette, Erin, Danielle, Chad, Dylan, Draven, Drew, Jimmy, Kenny, Justin, Tyson, Cameron and Gavin; forty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and two on the way; nieces, nephews, other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Pastor Harrison Brown officiating and Rev. Josh Coleman reading the obituary. Memories were shared by Bob Coleman and Randy Rebura. Special music of "Daddy's Hands" was played on CD along with "I Hold a Clear Title" sung by Bob and Carol Coleman with Josh Coleman on guitar and Alex Coleman on piano. Other music of "The Only Scars in Heaven was sung by Josh Coleman with Alex Coleman on piano. Live streaming was done for the service on Britton-Bennett Funeral Home Facebook page.

Committal prayer and interment with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Navy, VFW Post 5608 St. James, and the Patriot Guard were in the Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Joshua Coleman, DJ Harmon, Sam Harmon, Alex Coleman, William Coleman, Lorenzo McGee, Billy C. Coleman and Randy Rebura with Fred Mertz and Leon Turnbough as honorary.
