Michael Lee McCaffrey Massillon, Ohio Obituary

Michael Lee McCaffrey

Michael Lee McCaffrey, 67, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 13, 2021, with his wife Jeannie at his side. He was ready to let go of this earthy life and struggles and begin his life in heaven where we will join him one day. Michael was born in Columbus, Ohio where his young father Jim, currently of Hilton Head, North Carolina, and late mother Ann (Fishel) made their first home while pursuing an education. But life really began when they relocated to Findlay, Ohio where Michael had, according to him, an idyllic childhood. He loved his life there and his growing up years and returned often, where he would stop at his old home and familiar places and see old friends. He shared his early life with his brothers Marc (Linda) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Chris (Carol) of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Todd (Jean) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Like his dad though, his college years took him to The Ohio State University and Columbus became his new beloved home. After college he began his career in business and spoke often of his fondness for his first job at Merritt Plastics. Over the years he went on to work for Rubbermaid and Diebold, from which he retired from in 2013. While Michael’s work life was important to him, his pride and joy was in his children, Tyler of New York City, Kelly Alatis (Nate Reynolds) of Clarksville, Tennesee and Chase of Norwalk, Connecticut. Michael also fell in love with his granddaughter Nora, who called him Mack and loved him dearly. He loved spending time with his children and in later years when they weren’t so close by you could find him on the phone for lengths of time talking about anything and everything with them. Michael also leaves his wife, Mary Jean Lowry McCaffrey, whom he loved deeply and shared a wonderful life with along with his (canine) girl Harper. When Michael wasn’t with his family or working, he so loved riding his motorcycle on day trips or even competing in an Iron Butt cross country motorcycle race. He loved the freedom and excitement of being on the road. At home he loved playing his guitar and even enjoyed being in a band when he was younger. Michael had so many interests and was everyone’s go to person when something needed figured out. And he was always so generous with his time. Michael left this earth on his terms and had no regrets. He left with sadness for leaving behind those he loved most, but with a certainty that he would be in heaven and be joined with his Jeannie again in the future. Calling hours will take place at Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, Ohio on Tuesday, October 19, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. with Michael’s final Mass of Christian burial at St. Michael’s church, 3430 St. Michaels Blvd, NW, Canton, at 3:30 p.m. The family requires that masks be worn for visitation and Mass.
