Obituary Lula Mary Johnson Lula Mary Glenn Johnson’s earthly life began on November 5, 1942, as the youngest of nine children born to the late Charlie and Mary Elvira Glenn in Tifton, Georgia. Her son, Jimmy, two brothers (Raymond and Ross Glenn) and five sisters (Essie Mae Chukes, Charlie Lee Lawson, Annie Belle Thomas, Dorothy Battle, Pearl Graydon and Nicey King) preceded her in death. In 1962, She married her husband of 49 years, Wesley Johnson in Tifton, Georgia. She departed this life on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Mom Johnson lived in Miami, Florida for a brief period before settling into Toledo, Ohio in 1966. She received her Associates Degree in Business from Stautzenberger College in Toledo. She worked at Owens-Illinois for many years as well as Plastilite Corporation. She loved children and was a teacher’s aide at Fulton Elementary School before she began her employment with the University of Toledo Excel Program with Dr. Helen Cooks. She traveled to Ghana and South Africa as with the Excel Program on two occasions. She enjoyed traveling with family and went to London, England, Paris, France and cruise the Caribbean. She loved her family and could be counted on to attend reunions, weddings, funerals and anywhere family gathered. Her house was a place where family could come and stay for extended time, if needed, and she always had the welcome mat out for family and friends. Mom’s favorite pastime was playing bingo. She got much joy spending time there with friends. Mom begin her Christian experience at Allen Temple AME in Tifton, Georgia; She attended Braden United Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio, where she sang in the choir; and eventually moved to St. Stephens A.M.E. where she worked diligently as a Stewardess, Chairperson of the Education Committee, and mentor of women. She rarely missed a Sunday or any opportunity to serve. She leaves to mourn her beloved children Glendel (Deborah), Dexter and Alicia; grandchildren, Jay Richardson, Joshua Richardson, Joshua Johnson, Dexter Johnson, II, Darius Johnson, Treyvonne Johnson, Kamran Johnson, Justin Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Christopher Price; a host of great-grandchildren, her remaining sister, Verdell Walker, family, and friends.
