Lloyd L. Guenther Obituary

Lloyd L. Guenther, age 90 of Manitowoc passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, October 13, 2021, at his residence.

Lloyd was born on April 2, 1931, in Manawa, son of the late August and Hulda (Wollenburg) Guenther. He grew up in Manawa and graduated from High School there in 1949. On May 22, 1965, Lloyd married the former Joyce L. Peronto in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2015. Lloyd worked for the Weyerhaeuser Company for 26 years, retiring at the age of 62.

Lloyd was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Manitowoc and a current member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church of Manitowoc. He enjoyed attending bible classes at Bethany, gardening, and yard work at his home.  Many people may not know that Lloyd also enjoyed writing poetry.  In the past Lloyd enjoyed making financial donations to many charities.  He always looked forward to writing letters and spending time with his youngest granddaughter Josselyn during summer visits.  Josselyn tried her best to beat her grandpa at poker, but rarely did. He would always have a new joke or riddle to share with her.  Lloyd was a joy to be around and proudly earned the nickname “Smiley” years ago.

Survivors include his five children: Louis Guenther, Leon Guenther, Nathan Guenther all of Manitowoc; Kathy Gano, Lyndon, KS; LaVaune Guenther, Neenah and three grandchildren. One sister: Louise Chung, Madison; one sister-in-law Yvonne Guenther, Manawa. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: August and Hulda Guenther; his wife Joyce L. Guenther; two sisters: Irma & Lillian (Lolly); three brothers: Earl Guenther, Carl Guenther, and Leonard Guenther.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday October 25, 2021, at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. The Revs. Robert Kujawski and Stephen Melso will officiate with entombment of his cremated remains at the Knollwood Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call on Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. The Pfeffer Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the family.
