Elio Milton Sartori

SALINAS – Elio Milton Sartori 89 was a devoted husband, dedicated father, amazing “Nono” and an inspiration to so many family and friends. He went to be with Our Heavenly Father on October 13, 2021. He was home and surrounded by his family. A native of Lodano Switzerland, he came to America at the age of 20 to work alongside his Uncle who owned and operated Salinas Valley Freight Lines. He and his brother Sergio later purchased Santa Cruz motor Express and combined the two companies to form Salinas Valley Santa Cruz Motor Express. This family business was owned and operated for 95 years by three generations. Elio served in the US Army and became a citizen of the United States. In 1959 he met the love of his life, Winifred Marie Rubbo who was from Gonzales, CA. They settled down in Salinas where they raised their four children. They were married 61 wonderful years. Elio was a 50-year member of the Salinas Elks Lodge, the Swiss American Rifle club and a member of Madonna del Sasso Church. He enjoyed giving back to his community through various group functions. The American dream was pursued by him and with hard work, dedication and his unwavering faith, he was able to make that dream come true. He embraced his Swiss Italian heritage and enjoyed visiting his home country when he could. He also enjoyed it when family came over to see the life he created in America. He is survived by his wife Winifred, four children/spouses, Sonia and Charlie Castellani of Pioneer, John and Julie Sartori of Paso Robles, Sandi Maria of Salinas and DeDe and Guy Wadsworth of Salinas. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, CJ, Jaclyn and Anthony Castellani, Trina, Brian and Brandon Sartori, Nikolas and Ashlee Maria and Daniel Chamberlain and five great grandchildren. His love and legacy will continue on through all of us. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors. Memorial services will be held Thursday October 21,2021 at Struve and LaPorte Funeral Chapel at 10:30am in Salinas, CA followed by the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
