Obituary
DEMERS, Zakie N. (Massabni) Demers, of Burlington, passed away on October 13, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was 99 years old.
Born in Syria, Zakie was an incredible dressmaker, specializing in bead work, and she owned bridal shops in Cambridge and Arlington for years. She was extremely social and a very gracious hostess. There was always company at her home and she loved telling stories. She was also an avid cook specializing in Syrian food. She loved her community in Ft. Lauderdale, especially her walks on the beach with her beloved Philip, enjoying a cold beer and a slice of pizza. Zakie was happiest surrounded by her loving family and will be missed dearly.
Zakie was the dear and devoted wife of Philip Demers and the late John Sakey and the late Mitri Nahat. Loving mother of George Sakey of Lynn, Richard Nahat and his wife Patsy of FL, Louis Sakey and his wife Lynn of Woburn, Cheryl Baker and her husband James of Billerica and Suzy Sakey of Burlington. Cherished “Thea-thea” of 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Georgette of Tyngsboro and the late George, Gibran, Elias, Souhel, Hanan and Laurice and sister-in- law of Ibtehaj Massabni of Bedford. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Zakie's Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. John of Damascus, 300 West St, DEDHAM. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home, 8 Spring St. (at the corner of Centre St.) WEST ROXBURY. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Current Covid restrictions require masks in the funeral home as well as the Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Zakie’s memory may be made to the Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Zakie will be laid to rest at Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington.
