Leo Wayne Berthelot passed away on October 12, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Wayne was born in Metairie on November 9, 1949 to Leo and Rita Berthelot. He is survived by his siblings: Barbara Dabella (sp. Paul), Antoine Berthelot (sp. Pat), and was preceded in death by his brother Kerry Berthelot.
Wayne honorably served in the Army on the DMZ in Korea. He was incredibly proud to have served his country and was a member of the American Legion Post #350, a former Commander of the American Legion Post #175, and a member of the Elks Lodge #30.
Wayne dedicated 34 years working as a Mechanic for the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 16.
Wayne fiercely loved his family and is loved just as dearly in return. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Frances Berthelot; his daughters: Dawn Melancon (sp. Troy), Blair Alford (sp. John), Cheri Dufriend (sp. Trey); and his sons: Kyle Berthelot (fiancé Jenny Bravo), and Gregg Glaudi (sp. Jan). He was a very proud Paw Paw to his eleven grandchildren: Jordan Melancon, Camryn Melancon, Kaila Melancon, William Alford, Anderson Alford, Merritt Alford, Amber Reinoso (sp. Connor), Lance Vead, T.J. Dufriend (sp. Jen), Dylan Dufriend, and Elise Glaudi (sp. Steven). He is a great-grandfather to five. He will also be deeply missed by his three fur babies: Dusty, Roscoe, and Vader.
Wayne was a talented gunsmith and member of the NRA. He was also an avid pool player and a fixture at Whitey’s Pool Hall where he was a member of the BCA league team. In addition to his love of pool, Wayne enjoyed riding his motorcycles and spending time in his workshop.
The funeral will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Tharp Sontheimer Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Metairie, LA 70001. The visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with services starting at 7 p.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, face masks are required. Arrangements are under the care of Garden of Memories Funeral Home.
