Tomas Leyva, Jr.

Tomas Leyva, 94, of San Benito (El Ranchito) Texas passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Tomas was born in Holtville California in 1927 to the late Tomas Leyva and Bernardina Aguilar. He grew up in Mexico where he was raised by his grandmother and surrounded by loving cousins. He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed repairing cars in his spare time. Tomas can be described as an avid gardener who enjoyed planting flowers, trees and vegetables. He loved to joke around and was a devoted coffee fan. Tomas was a beautiful human being full of love, kindness, and devotion to his family. Tomas is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Luis Leyva and Jesus Leyva, siblings: Angel, Rudy, Alfonso, Rebecca, and Paula Leyva. He is survived by his wife: Bertha Leyva, children: Ma del Carmen (Eduardo-deceased) Melendez, Alma R. Leyva, Jose A. Leyva, Rogelio (Josefina) Leyva, Veronica Leyva, Tomas (Lucia) Leyva, Oscar (Sandrivet) Leyva, sister: Hortencia Jaimez, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday October 15, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at San Ignacio Catholic Church 24380 US-281 San Benito, TX 78586 with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Angel Leyva, Tomas Leyva III, Tomas Leyva IV, Rogelio Leyva, Oscar Leyva, Juan de dios Perez, Alfonso Cruz, and Matthew Dilger. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
