Obituary

Mickey was born on December 27, 1946, in Bend, Oregon, and passed away from COVID on October 8, 2021, in Medford, Oregon at the age of 74.

Upon graduating from Lakeview High School in 1966 and turning down an offer from a New York Yankees Talent Coach to give baseball a try, Mickey began working in a variety of occupations that would include Emery Logging, Moty & Van Dyke, Phillips 66, the Lakeview Police Dept., a bouncer at The Indian Village, Lawson Products, Mile Hi Motors, owner of The Fitness Center in the 1980’s and in most recent years he enjoyed working for the BLM.

Playing baseball in his youth was a huge passion for Mickey, as was snowmobiling and driving fast cars.  He thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his sons, whether on their dirt bikes, popping off squirrels & jackrabbits, or a good fall hunting trip.  He definitely instilled in his boys a love for the outdoors and the beauty of Lake County.

Always proud of his grandkids, if they had a sporting event, “Papa” could usually be found in attendance.  Mickey loved many things in life, a great meal, an entertaining movie, a good book, and an engaging conversation. If you knew him well, you knew he was a lifelong, passionate fan of Elvis Presley and his music.

A kind and generous man, Mickey was always willing to lend a hand in any way he could.  He was an easy man to love and established lifelong friendships too numerous to count.

On June 6, 1970, Mickey married the love of his life, Margo. Throughout their marriage, he often referred to her as his “bride” and to this union were born two amazing sons, Keith & Colton.

Mickey is survived by his wife Margo, sons Keith (Jennifer) & Colton Stephens, sister Sherry Peralta, grandchildren Taylor (Angelica) Stephens, Bailee (Raymond) Cooley, Abbie & Hannah Stephens, great-grandchildren Thea Stephens, Abel & Ashlynn Cooley, step-great granddaughter Neela Ledbetter, his granddog Shade who was his loyal shadow, a niece and five nephews.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Mitch & Lee Stephens, and his in-laws, Arlie & Inez Neal.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.

Memorial contributions can be made in Mickey’s memory to the Lake County Library, PO Box 44, Lakeview, OR 97630, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
