Karlis Gercens, Jr.

<p>Karlis Gercens, Jr., 78, passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at his home on Egypt Plantation near Cruger, MS.&nbsp; Funeral services are 3 P.M. Sunday, October 17 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with Rev. Al Different officiating. Visitation is from 1-3 P.M. Sunday prior to the service.</p> <p>Karlis was born in Latvia to Karlis and Marija Martinson Gercens.&nbsp; He and his family moved to Egypt plantation when he was 7.&nbsp; He grew up there and graduated from Delta State University.&nbsp; Since 1978 he has worked as the Farm Manager for Egypt Plantation.&nbsp; He enjoyed the land, loved growing the crops, hunting ducks and fishing.&nbsp; Karlis was also a member of Cruger Baptist Church.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Sallie Clements Gercens.</p> <p>Mr. Gercens is survived by three sons, Todd Melton (Tina) of Saltillo, MS, Dennis Melton, Jr., (Elizabeth) of Acona, MS and Karlis Gercens, III of Kennett Square, PA; a sister, Milda McMillian of Barrington, IL; a brother, Janis Gercens of Cruger, MS; two grandchildren, Sterling Melton of Gluckstadt, MS and Ryan Melton of Saltillo, MS, 4 Great Grandchildren and the mother of his sons, Linda Gercens of Kennett Square, PA.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
