Funeral services for William Powell Loftis, age 85 of Cookeville, will be at 3 p.m. Monday October 18 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. James Rogers will officiate. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday from 1 p.m. until time of services. William passed away Thursday October 14, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born February 2, 1936 in Cookeville to the late Lester Francis and Vada Mae Moore Loftis. In 1969, William accepted Jesus and was baptized at Arkansas Avenue Church of Christ in Laredo, TX. He was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ in Cookeville and was a former member and deacon at Hickory Knoll Church of Christ in Harahan, LA. William graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Agriculture. He served in the TN Army National Guard, and was retired from a 30 year career with the US Department of Agriculture having the position of Chief Inspector when he retired. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Thompson Loftis, whom he married on June 30, 1965; daughter, Connie (Bryan) Lynchard of Cookeville; son, William Patrick Loftis of Fairfield, OH; two grandchildren, Bethany Grace Lynchard and Caleb Andrew Lynchard; sister, Mary Frances Loftis of Nashville; two brothers, Harold (Ella) Loftis of Cookeville, Robert Howard Loftis of Nashville; sister-in-law, Sue Loftis of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Carlen Taylor "Jazbo" Loftis, brother and sister-in-law Ralph Staley and Maxine Loftis, and sister-in-law, Ovella Loftis. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was the best Daddy-Rip to his grandchildren and their best friend.
