Shelby Jean Whitman Obituary

Shelby Jean Whitman, 77, of Foster, WV, went to Heaven on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, leaving from Boone Memorial Hospital in Madison, WV.

Born July 8, 1944, at Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Goldie Smith Carpenter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jarrod David Whitman; one daughter, Tonia Justice Whitman; one brother, Dean Carpenter; and one sister, Brenda Carpenter.

Shelby’s life was well-lived and consisted of praising and worshipping God and spreading His word. As a devout Christian, she was a member of the Fountain of Life Worship Center at Foster, WV. She was a mighty warrior for God who fought the battle her entire life and has now finally won. Shelby enjoyed many things in life, but she found happiness in drinking coffee on the pool deck while reading the word of God and spending time with her family, friends, and church family. She also loved to cook, and it was said by everyone that she made the best chicken and dumplings ever.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 60 years, David E. Whitman; one daughter, Diana (Ron) Herndon; two sons, David (Amy) Whitman and Dustin (Kurt) Whitman; four grandchildren; Kaleb Justice, Jeremy Justice, Dexter Justice, and Amanda (Gunnar) Curry; two great-grandchildren, Axel David Justice and Anna Jean Justice; one brother, Marshall Carpenter; two sisters, Barbara (Eugene) Russell and Linda (Paul) McCoy; special nieces, Ashlee (Jason) Blankenship and Stacee (Troy) Stanley; two special great-nephews, Cole and Crew Blankenship. Additionally, Shelby also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family, friends, and her church family, whom she loved so much.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the Fountain of Life Worship Center at Foster, WV, with Pastor Mick Frye and Mike Manuel officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV. Pallbearers will be Kaleb Justice, Jeremy Justice, Dexter Justice, Dustin Whitman, Kurt Cepeda, Dave Whitman, Mike Kelly, and Gunnar Curry.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, it is requested by the family that those who wish to attend wear masks.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Chapmanville, WV.
