Emily Nora Baucom

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Emily McSwain Baucom, went to her Heavenly Rest Thursday morning, September 30, 2021, just two weeks after celebrating her 79th birthday. A final mercy was shown in that our Mother was able to leave this world for her eternal rest as she had always wished, in her sleep. She closed her eyes to this world and awoke in the presence of the Lord.

Emily Nora McSwain Baucom was born in Shelby, Cleveland County, NC on September 16, 1942, to Bonnie Edward McSwain and Sarah Emma Page. She was the second of five children and predeceased by her eldest and beloved sister, Alice. She was a 1960 graduate of Lincolnton High School and 1962 graduate of Kings College. Her 45-year career in Executive Support was extremely fulfilling and rewarding. However, the great love of Emily’s life was her grandchildren. She was a devoted and highly spirited grandmother that made life a daily adventure for her grandchildren who were blessed to grow up living only a mile away. She was an encourager and cheerleader to her friends and family. She retired to the mountains of Western NC in 2008 where she spent her time volunteering, decorating her new home and living life to the fullest. She loved celebrating all of life with good food, indulging in her evening baths, hot tea, Barry White and The Bee Gees, Masterpiece Theater and keeping herself preoccupied worrying about nothing of consequence. She kept us all on our toes and we miss her greatly every day. Her impact will live on in each of our hearts.

Emily is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ronda Baucom and Wally Schmader of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren Sarah Schmader and Jake Schmader; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Charles Coniguliaro of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Abigail, Nicholas, August, and Beckett Coniguliaro; sister, Martha (Randy) Allran; brother Thomas (Judy) McSwain; brother Alan Dale (Jane) McSwain; and four nieces.
