Hortense T. Martinez Garcia Alvarez went to be with the Lord, October 12, 2021 at the age of 86. A native of Victoria, Hortense was born, July 14, 1935 to the late Guadalupe and Janie Trevino Martinez. Visitation will be held Monday, October 18, 2021, from 6P.M. – 8P.M. with a prayer service at 7P.M. at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Highway in Victoria. Services will be Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 2P.M. at Grace Funeral Home followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Avery Spano, JJ Garcia, Isaiah Garcia, Jeremy Espitia, Isaac Navarro, and John Garcia, Jr. Hortense was preceded in death by her parents; half-brother, Sonny Martinez; grandsons, Manuel Comacho and Christopher John Espitia. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Luz Alvarez; children, Sylvia Garcia, John M. Garcia and wife, Isabel, Al Garcia and wife, Stacy, Jerry Garcia and wife, Susanna, John Garcia, Jr. and wife, Gina, Martin Garcia, and Andrew Garcia; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Hortense was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and very giving to all. There were many organizations that Hortense would frequently give to. In her early years, she worked for L & M Laundry as a dispatch and to a long career as the housekeeper for the O.F. Jones for over 30 years, for 30 years. She enjoyed dancing and listening to Tejano music. She also had a great love for her cat named “Kitty”. One thing she was well known for was her pies during Thanksgiving, everyone in the family knew they were going to get their own pie. Hortense will be greatly missed by all.
