Robert Glenn Dyson Waldron, Arkansas Obituary

Robert Glenn Dyson

Robert Glenn Dyson of Waldron, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 11, 2021 at his daughters home in Wills Point, Texas. Glenn was born in Hastings, Oklahoma on May 2, 1933 to Nollie Ernest Dyson and Anna Mae (Jones) Dyson. He was 88 years 5 months 9 days old. Glenn was a proud Marine and Korean veteran holding the rank of Sergeant upon his discharge. At age 18 his name was first on the list of the Scott County Draft Register so rather than be be drafted he chose to enlist. Upon his discharge his name was still first on the Registry but he never regretted his service, in fact he regretted not making it a career. Glenn raised his family in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. He supported them through numerous jobs; truck driver, steel mill worker, warehouseman, and refurbishing airplanes during Vietnam. His father, Ernest, passed into new life in 1980. Now, a single man and his sister needing help caring for their mother in 1981 he returned to Scott County. At this time two blessings occurred in his life. The first, one Sunday morning he was watching Bro. Jimmy Swaggart on TV. When Bro. Swaggart issued the invitation to accept Jesus Christ as Savior, Glenn realized even though he had known all his life who Jesus was he had never truly accepted Him as his Savior. Accepting Jesus as his Savior was a life changing event. The second, was the realization of a secret dream, secret because he had never shared the dream with anyone. That dream was to be a police officer. He had been looking for a job to support himself when one day a Scott County Deputy came to his home with a message that the Sheriff wanted to see him. The Sheriff was looking for a dispatcher/jailer and someone who knew Glenn had given the Sheriff a referral. Thus began his career for the next eight years in law enforcement. After two heart attacks he decided it was time to retire in 1989. He did not want to be the cause of another officer being injured if he had another attack while in a serious or hostage situation. In 1984 while assisting the Scott County Fair Board, on his days off, as evening security he was introduced to his future bride by her daughters, Becky & Kristy, who had their replacement heifers entered in the fair. This introduction began his next adventure. Glenn and Sherian were married on December 19, 1984. In 1986, needing to add additional income to support his family he established Glenn's Carpet Cleaning until another heart attack in 1990 disabled him. In 1992 he and Sherian opened a recycling center at Needmore which began what is now the recycling program operated by the City of Waldron. In 1994 Glenn was called to preach. Again, another life changing experience. Up to this time it was difficult for Glenn to stand in front of a congregation as Sunday School Superintendent. He was later instrumental in establishing the Nazarene Church in Hartford, Arkansas. He faithfully participated in the Boy Scout program from 1993 until 2000. The last three years serving as Chaplin during the summer camping program at Camp Orr at Jasper, AR. During their marriage Glenn and Sherian had many opportunities to minister and share the Gospel. Glenn was hospitalized 60 times in 34 years. During each hospitalization people gravitated to him for comfort, wisdom and instruction from this quite man. He loved being outside, working, fishing, etc., but not more than he loved his family and spending time with them. Anytime you saw Glenn, he would have a cup of coffee in his hand, a good tale to tell, and a smile on his face. His happiness was contagious and he was a friend to all. Glenn was always willing to help anyone in need, no matter who it was; you could count on him anytime, night or day. Glenn is survived by his wife, Sherian Kaye (Elam) Doerr-Dyson of the home, his children; Kimla Michelle "Kim" Jones of Wills Point, Texas, Raymond Gary and wife, Michele Renee Dyson of Royce City, Texas, Debra Ann Dyson of Wills Point, Texas; Rhea Kristeen "Kristy" (Doerr) and husband, Christopher Lee "Chris" Blankenship of Heavener, Oklahoma and Ryan Keith Doerr and wife Helyn M., his 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren & 3 great great grandchildren.. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Philis Jean (Elam) and husband, Daymon Lee Cook of Packsaddle Community, Scott County, Arkansas and sister-in-law, Marilyn Dyson of the Needmore Community, Scott County, Arkansas, 3 nephews and 3 nieces. Glenn will be missed by all that knew him and the many whose lives he impacted including a large extended family, friends and neighbors he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Robert "Robb" James Jones and Etta Nancy (Hale) Jones; paternal grandparents, Robert Ernest Dyson and Bessie Almeda (Plowman) Dyson; his sister, Cora Ruth (Dyson) Owens, brother-in-law, Jack Owens; brother, Luther Wyatt Dyson and daughter, Rebecca Kathleen "Becky" (Doerr) Cope.
