Vera A. Kolatis Obituary

Vera A. Kolatis, affectionally known to her family as “Honey Girl,” 83, of Dunmore, died Wednesday morning in Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, following a courageous battle with cancer.  She and her husband, Frank “Pudgy” Kolatis, were married on March 30, 1957. Vera was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Angelo and Mary Casarella Guimento, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1955 where she performed and twirled as Head Majorette. Prior to her retirement in March 2021, she was employed by the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office for more than 30 years. She absolutely loved going to work each and every day, making lifelong friendships with her co-workers and all those visiting her office and the courthouse. Vera enjoyed playing cards with her TPK club, attending events with the MAC club and loved going to local casinos and Atlantic City where she spent hours playing the slot machines. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, word searches and playing solitaire.

Also surviving are daughters Karen DeMarco and husband Leonard of Mahopac, NY; Laurie Mecca and husband Brian of Madison Twp.; and Melissa Pavlowski and husband Tom of Dunmore; grandchildren Frank Kolatis and wife Cassandra of Olyphant; Travis DeMarco and wife Hope of Queens, NY; Emily, Megan, and Tommy Pavlowski, all of Dunmore; and great-granddaughter Alessandra Morelli-Kolatis of Olyphant; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Angelo and Robert “Jeep” Guimento.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.  Interment to follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions in Vera’s memory may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, 18503.
