Roberta Welch, 82 of Las Cruces, NM passed away on October 13, 2021. Roberta was born in Wink, Texas to Roy and Cora Hays on October 4, 1939. After many years working the oil fields in the Permian Basin, the family settled in Farmington, NM where Roberta grew up and graduated from Farmington High School in 1957. Roberta went on to earn her Master’s degree in Education from New Mexico State University and spent her career guiding the young people of Las Cruces as an elementary school teacher. She loved helping students learn and grow and touched many young lives over the years. Later in life, she loved seeing the world and experiencing new things with her husband Boyd of many years as they traveled and enjoyed life both here and abroad. Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and one grandson. Roberta is survived by her husband Boyd Welch, daughters Valerie Davis (Eric), Lisa Asel (Ed), Leslie Pope (Robert), sons Lance (Monica) and Scott (Triona) as well as 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many dear friends, neighbors, and extended family members in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Ireland. A graveside memorial will be held at the Masonic Cemetery at 9:00am on Monday October 18, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Getz Funeral Home.
