Charles A. Negri Obituary

Negri, Charles A., 96, of Richmond, VA. A native of Washington, D.C., Charles Negri, son of Luigi Negri from Italy and Clelia Danzi from Giubiasco, Switzerland, was employed by Departments of the Army, Air Force, and Labor, and the Metropolitan Club of Washington, D.C. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from American University in Washington, DC in 1951. During World War II, he served in the North African & Italian Campaigns, and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart (he was wounded in the Battle of Anzio), Presidential Unit Citation, and other honors. He was an incredible presence in many lives. He was nurturing, intelligent, had a wry sense of humor and loved unconditionally. He embraced life with true passion and lived every moment to the fullest. He never took anything or anyone for granted. His family and friends were his world, and he made it known every day. An award-winning public speaker and accomplished tenor, Mr. Negri sang in numerous church services and The Virginians barbershop chorus. According to Mike Wallen, The Virginians’ Music Director: "Charlie became an icon of the Virginians barbershop chorus where his reflections on life, quick wit, and sense of humor would always enrich rehearsals and performances. His emotional remembrance of hearing “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” for the first time while stationed in Italy during WWII was often featured in the Virginians’ Christmas shows.” Charlie recorded this special memory last Sunday, October 3rd, to be used as the song’s introduction for this year’s “virtual” Christmas show. The family invites you to share in Charlie’s memory by viewing the show. Information will be posted on the Virginians’ website, virginians.org, in early December.”
