Mary Margaret "Peggy" Evans, age 73, of Newfoundland, PA died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton. Peggy was born May 28, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Ellen (Sartori) McGinnis of Hawley, PA. She was predeceased by her brother, William McGinnis and her niece, Emily Webb. She was a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area School District and earned her bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University and her master's degree from Marywood University. She was a first grade teacher for 39 years at Wallenpaupack South Elementary School in Newfoundland, PA. Peggy enjoyed RVing, boating on the Chesapeake Bay and Lake Wallenpaupack, her book club, flower gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, J. Dennis Evans; two daughters & sons-in-law, Sara & Adam Moffitt of Estero, FL and Erin & Chad Anke of Tafton, PA; three grandchildren, Keely Moffitt, Alex Moffitt, Finn Anke; one sister Marcy Webb and husband Ian of Laury's Station, PA; two brothers Robert J. McGinnis and wife Patti of Hawley, PA and Michael McGinnis and wife Angie of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday, October 18th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Teeters' Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 19th at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, PA by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Inurnment will be in B.V.M. Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley, PA. Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association National Office, 161 N. Clark, Suite 3550, Chicago, Illinois 60601 or American Heart Association NEPA District, 968 Postal Rd, Suite 110, Allentown, PA 18109.
