Kenneth Roy Eavis

Age 84, Garlands Crossing, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born November 29, 1936 in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Leslie K. and Mary M. (Strickland) Eavis. Ken served in the Navel Reserve for two years, in the Canadian Air Force for 21 years, posted in numerous locations in Canada as well as Merville, France and Sardinia, Italy. Following his air force career, he was Town Clerk for Digby, then Chief Clerk for Provincial Court and Justice of the Peace, serving the communities of Digby, Little Brook, Meteghan, Yarmouth, Shelburne; and finally retiring from family court in Bridgewater. Ken volunteered many hours to many different organizations: Leader of Boy Scouts, Commodore of Royal Western Nova Scotia Yacht Club, Financial Advisor with Keltic Savings Corp. Ltd., Director with Board of Citizens Against Spousal Abuse in Digby, Board Member with Juniper House in Yarmouth, Chair of the Board for Shoreham Village in Chester, Trustee and Member of Wolfville Baptist Church, volunteering with the Valley Regional Hospital Emergency Department, member of Masonic Lodge, King Solomon Lodge in Digby and the Shriners. Ken and Doris loved to travel. They spent their winters in Florida, Bermuda, Portugal and Victoria, BC. They also enjoyed spending time in Montreal, Ottawa and Boston. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Doris M. Eavis; son, Leslie; sister, Dolores Wilmhurst; and brother, Boyd. Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his sister, Beverly. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A service celebrating Ken’s life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 20 in Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, Rev. David Hann officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Please note: Masks and proof of COVID-19 vaccination and identification required before entry at church and cemetery.
