Santos Nicolas Marrero

Santos Nicolas "Nico" Marrero, a mechanical engineer and resident of Lexington, KY, passed away on October 11th, 2021 at the age of 44 at UK Chandler Hospital. Nico is survived by his parents; his sisters, Nica and Eli Marrero; and his nephew, Nicolas Roman. Nico was born in Champaign, IL on July 30th, 1977 to Santos and Maria Marrero. He attended elementary school and high school in Chicago, IL and enlisted to the Marine Corp in 1995 where he served his country as an Aircraft Mechanic for 8 proud years. He attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated in 2010 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Shortly after, Nico moved to Lexington, KY where he pursued a career in engineering and resided for the remainder of his life. Nico was a devoted son and brother and in his free time, he enjoyed; biking, bowling, collecting and building transformers, flying his many drones, drawing and painting artwork, playing his trumpet and guitar, playing video games, and taking apart/rebuilding electronics, to name a few things. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Visitations will be held at Casey & Rios Funeral Home located at 4540-50 W Diversey Ave, Chicago, IL 60639 on Wednesday October 20th, 2021 from 3 - 8 PM. Nico will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL on Thursday October 21st, 2021 and will receive a Military Service there as well. We ask all who are planning on attending the Military Service to meet at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 10 AM on Thursday October 21st, 2021.
