Dolly Calhoun

<p>Dolly Jean Calhoun, 82, of Midland, Texas died October 13, 2021 in Midland. She was born August 12, 1939 in Eastland, Texas to Bertha Mae and C V Williamson. Dolly graduated from Midland High School in 1957. She married Carl Rayford Calhoun on October 19, 1957 at Greenwood Baptist Church in Midland County. </p><p><br></p><p>Always involved with her three daughters’ activities, she served as a leader in PTA, Camp Fire Girls, and 4-H. She was honored with a lifetime PTA membership and awarded “Outstanding 4-H Leader” by Texas 4-H. When grandchildren came along, she attended and supported their activities.</p><p><br></p><p>Dolly worked as a mortgage loan officer at several area lending institutions and was active and served in local business, realtor and service organizations. After retirement she began making quilts and exhibiting her creative works in shows. She volunteered as a docent at Midland’s Scarborough/Linebery House for 10 years and led the annual schoolchildren quilts project. Dolly made and gifted a quilt to every member of her family as a lasting remembrance of her love for them. </p><p>She encouraged her husband in his steer/team roping hobby and traveled many miles to watch him compete in and enjoy his lifelong passion. From their early marriage on, she and Rayford relished the many lively evenings spent dancing to country music with family and friends. They were members of First United Methodist Church of Midland and Partners Sunday School Class for over 30 years. </p><p><br></p><p>Dolly was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Rayford Calhoun; daughters Vicky (David) Saxe, Rainy Walker, and Christi (Billy) Lehew; sisters Charlsie (Johny) Weyerts and Gayle Lewis; grandchildren Taylor Welch, Justin Welch, Jessi Welch Medlin, Miles Walker, Madeline Walker Henson, Clay Lehew, and Katelee Lehew; and 13 great-grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Pallbearers will be Taylor Welch, Justin Welch, Kristopher Medlin, Miles Walker, Clay Lehew, and Ryan Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be members of FUMC Partners Sunday School Class.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be at 1 pm on Monday, October 18, 2021,followed by funeral services at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church, 300 N Main, Midland, Texas. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, Dolly requested that memorials be considered to First Methodist Midland, 300 N Main, Midland, TX, 79701 or Midland Quilters Guild, PO Box 8757, Midland, TX, 79708 or Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR, 72202.</p>
