Jonathan Francis “Jon” Fryar Obituary

Jonathan Francis “Jon” Fryar, 65, of New Whiteland, Indiana, passed away at his residence surrounded by loved ones on Monday, October 11, 2021.

Jon was born on March 29, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Harry and Wilma (Nobbe) Fryar.

Jon was a 1974 graduate from Arlington High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from June of 1974 to January of 1988. He later worked as an iron worker for the Iron Workers Local Union No. 22 in Indianapolis for thirty years until his retirement in 2003. He served his Masonic Lodge as a Past Master Mason and was the Race Director at Whiteland Raceways Park for several years. He and his wife enjoyed watching the go-kart races and together they watched many of the racers grow up, graduate, and get married over the years.

Jon married his wife, Marianne (Curbox) Simmons Fryar, on May 10, 2003 in La Porte, Indiana; they were married for eighteen wonderful years. He was a caring father and a loving grandfather. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and grandson. Jon loved watching his favorite movies with his grandson, especially The Wizard of Oz, Gettysburg, Ford vs Ferrari's, and Tombstone. Along with creating memories with his loved ones, he enjoyed golfing, watching and attending NASCAR races, and making trips to Las Vegas to try his luck at a game of Texas hold 'em. Jon's childhood dream was to drive a John Deere tractor pulling the Shuttle at the Indiana State Fair. He was a Shuttle driver/maintenance employee for fourteen years at the fair. He was a lover of music and could often be found listening to his favorite songs by The Who, Morris Day & The Time, Moody Blues, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie Nicks.

Jon is survived by his wife, Marianne Fryar of New Whiteland; his three children, Jason Francis (Michele) Fryar of Dillwyn, VA, Courtney Raine Simmons of Franklin, IN, and Ashley Brooke (Matthew K. Hirt) Simmons-Hirt of Monticello, IN; his grandchild, Aidan Jaxson Simmons.
