Thomas R. Mitchell Obituary

Troy - Thomas R. Mitchell, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, after a brief illness, with his wife and children by his side.

He was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX, the youngest child of 8, son of the late Roy Mitchell and Laura Potter Mitchell and husband for 40 years to Linda Sunukjian Mitchell. He was a 1962 graduate of North Side High School in Fort Worth, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and graduate of Cleveland Institute of Electronics. He later moved to California where he met his beautiful wife and had his two children. They resided in the Bay Area for many years before moving to Troy, NY in 1994.

Most recently, Tom was an IT Technician for Albany Medical Center, retiring in 2012. Previously, he worked in IT and computer programming for NY State, WMHT and IBM.

Tom was best known for his quirky, fun-loving personality, his cowboy hat and his relentless dad jokes. When he wasn’t tinkering with computers, 3D printers, and ham radios, he was following astronomy calendars and staring into space with his telescope. When relaxing, he loved to watch science fiction or Disney movies with granddaughter. He also really enjoyed golf, bowling and billiards followed by an ice-cold Jack & Coke.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter, Victoria (Albert) Deeb, Troy; his son, Andrew Mitchell, Brooklyn; his granddaughter, Lucie Deeb; his siblings, Bess, Lou, Toy and James and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Dorothy, Harry and Alice.

Relatives and friends may call at the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church, 520 Pawling Avenue in Troy, on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 9-11 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM with Rev. Karyl Hopp, Former Pastor, officiating. Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Planetary Society or the American Heart Association in memory of Thomas R. Mitchell.
