Ronald Reid Edwards Obituary

Ronald Reid Edwards, age 82, devoted husband, father & friend to many, passed away peacefully at his home in Brenham, TX on September 24, 2021, surrounded by his children & grandchildren. Ron was born in Houston, TX on April 16, 1939 to Robert & Dena Edwards. He was the second of four children.

He was married to the love of his life, Mary Louise Cruz, on December 31, 1961. Together, they raised four children, Laura Anne, William (Bill) Bartley, Lisa Carol & Amy Lynn. Their life together started in Killeen, TX where he served our country in the U.S. Army. He then began a more than 50-year career in the bedding industry which took them to Ft. Worth, Houston, and eventually to Brenham, TX, where they settled in 1998.

Ron was an avid musician, and an incredibly talented blues guitar player. His love of music was infectious, and he amazed everyone he met with his remarkable talent. He served his family and the Lord through his music, playing on stages of all sizes, for crowds of hundreds, as well as for many family gatherings over the years. He brought joy to others, serving in the choirs at St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Worth and at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brenham. His family and his music were Ron's absolute greatest joys in life and although he was a man of few words, he spoke endless praise and love for his family. He was always incredibly grateful for his blessings.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, Robert & Dena Edwards; and his three siblings, Robert Jr. (Bobby) Edwards, William (Bill) Edwards and Lucinda (Cindy) Edwards.

He is survived by his children, Laura Porter & husband Jeff Porter, Bill Edwards & wife Melody Edwards, Lisa Edwards, Amy Barrilleaux & husband Clay Barrilleaux; grandchildren Brittany Edwards, Brandi Dixon & husband Brandon Dixon, Andrew Harvey, Sam Porter, Dylan Porter, Marcus Matthews & wife Rebecca Matthews, Morgan Matthews, Austin Edwards and Sadie Barrilleaux; great-grandchildren, Dustin Skaggs, Avery Cooper, Brooklynn Winslow, Layne Wangler, Savannah Ferguson, Brenham Dixon, Trenton Matthews, Trevor Matthews and Jordan Matthews, Brooks Matthews; and many nieces & nephews he loved very dearly.

Please join the family in celebrating his life on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 701 Church St., Brenham TX, 77833.
