Travis Dempster Knode, Jr.

Travis Dempster Knode Jr., age 90, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 2, 1931 to the late Travis Sr. and Mary Knode. He lived his early life in Keedysville, MD before marrying his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jean Black on June 10, 1956. She passed away February 12, 2021. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953. In his early years, he worked as a salesman for Esskay Meats and Kessler’s Meats and later drove a schoolbus for Greencastle-Antrim School District. He and his wife previously owned Knode’s Grocery and Hillcrest Drive-In. Travis is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Lee) Barnes and Lisa (Steve) Diffenbaucher and son Curtis Knode; grandchildren Travis (Emily) Barnes, Derek (Cris) Barnes, Tara (Justin) Reed, Jeremy Barnes and Holly Upperman; great grandchildren Colton, Landon, Emma, Chloe, Parker and Lucas and step-great grandchildren Zach, Gage, Kenzie and Maddy and Jay. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Travis enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. In his younger years, he liked to spend time at the family cabin by Cowan’s Gap or crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay. One of his favorite things to do was pick crabs while drinking a cold beer with his family. Travis was an outgoing person who found joy in talking to anyone. He liked to learn about people and would always ask lots of questions of whoever crossed his path. He enjoyed the company of family and friends and everyone was welcome at their home on Williamson Avenue. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at SpiritTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice for the care that was given over the last year. He, along with his family, were treated with love, dignity, and kindness, especially the last few weeks. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
