Barbara F Place Obituary


Barbara Frances Place, 93 years young passed October 13, 2021 peacefully in her sleep at her home.
She was born January 25, 1928, the daughter of the late George D. Sherman and Agnes Smith Sherman.
She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Sherman Place and Beverly Sherman Howe, both  of Florida. She has six children, Linda J. Reynolds, Kevin J. Place, Theodore M. Place, Jeff L. Place all of Freetown, Gayle E. Stutz of Dartmouth, and Kay L. Johnson of Ladson, SC. There are 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was considered “mom” or “nana” by many more. Barbara was predeceased in death by her husband John T. Place, brother George Sherman Jr., and sisters Alice Mathias, Margaret Pittsley and Barbara A. Turpin Place.
She was famously known for her knitted or crocheted projects. If you didn’t have a lovingly made baby sweater for your newborn you didn’t know mom. She also loved to sew and travel. She was known to open her heart and home to any who needed a place to sleep or a meal to fill their belly.


A Memorial gathering with a Memorial service will be on Saturday Oct. 23, 2021 from 2pm to 4pm at South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Road(Rt18) East Freetown, Ma 02717. All family and friends most welcome. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in her name.
