Alice M. Pacella Obituary

Alice M. Pacella, 72, died peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side on October 12, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Her last few months were spent surrounded by her loving family with constant visits, both actual and virtual, with her children, grandchildren, sister Martha and other family and friends. The highlight, for Alice, was having the whole family together for her daughter’s wedding this past August on Peak’s Island, ME. Born on November 5, 1948, in Northampton, MA, Alice was the daughter of the late Albert and Veronica (Gnatek) Rost. The third of four children, Alice graduated from Northampton High School in 1966 and received her bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle in 1970, where she majored in French. It was while she was in New York that she met the love of her life, Joe Pacella. They were married just after Alice’s graduation on June 14, 1970, and then traveled to Europe beginning a whirlwind 51-year “grand adventure of life.” Together, they enjoyed creating and running multiple successful businesses, designing and building their dream homes, spending every summer in Maine, traveling throughout the world (including taking over 40 cruises), and playing countless competitive card games with their children and grandchildren. Throughout her life with Joe, they created a lifetime of fabulous memories with their four wonderful children, seven beautiful grandchildren and numerous dear friends. Alice wore many hats in her life, from teaching French to running multiple real estate-related businesses. Most notably to her was the 20 years she spent serving St. Mary’s parish in Longmeadow, MA, from teaching catechism classes to organizing and running the annual Christmas Craft Fair. She was also a multi-term President of St. Mary’s Women’s Guild and served as Parish Administrator for many years. Despite her many years of service to the church, the focus of Alice’s life was always her family. Alice leaves behind her loving husband, Joe, her daughter Katharine (Jim Benson), her three sons Joseph (Aileen Sullivan-Pacella), Michael, and James (Nan Pacella), and her seven exceptional grandchildren: Matthew, Alessandra, Timothy, Luke, Sophia, Olive and Chloe. She also leaves behind her siblings MaryAnn Rost, Richard (Lois) Rost, and Martha Vandoloski, as well as her niece Veronica (Jesse) Gage and their children Reid and Harper, and her nephew John Vandoloski. Friends and family are invited to say their goodbyes to Alice at Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford, ME on Monday, October 18, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. On Tuesday, October 19, at 11:00 AM, there will be a funeral mass at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco, ME, immediately followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery, also in Saco, ME. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Gynecological Oncology department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or www.dana-farber.org/gift.
