Mrs. Katherine Ann Gorrell Hooks, 73, of Graniteville, SC, gained her angel wings peacefully at home Tuesday, 12 October 2021 after her two-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Katherine was born in Newport, RI, in January 1948, and is a 1967 graduate of Rogers High School. She worked as a Department of Defense Contractor supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport as a Logistics Specialists and Documentation Librarian. After relocating to Virginia Beach, VA, she continued to work as a DOD contractor with the Combat Systems Engineering Center before becoming a Civil Servant with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Norfolk Department. She concluded her working career as a DOD Contractor in support of the Space and Naval Warfare Center Norfolk. She enjoyed ceramics, watching her favorite TV programs, and especially cruising. Her favorite, but not final cruise was a thirty-day Baltic and the British Isles shortly after her diagnosis. She is survived by her husband of thirty-four years, Hilton Coolidge Hooks, daughter Kelly Lynn Donnelly Plaisance (Christopher) of Black River Falls, WI., step-son Justin Hooks (Amber) of New Orleans, LA., grandchildren Annah and Nolan Plaisance and Abigail Hooks, brother Joseph Nunes (Theresa) of Newport, RI., and brother-in-law Donovan Hooks (Caroline) North Augusta, SC., along with several nieces and nephews, and her very special best friend for many years, Donna Lewis Nannini.   Katherine was preceded in death by her mother Anne Armbrecht Nunes, four aunts, Mary Armbrecht, Isabelle Blythe, Barbara Manning, and Loraine McEnness. Friends will be greeted by the family on Wednesday, 20 October 2021, from 10:30 until 11:30 at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway Graniteville, SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 20, October 2021, at 1 o’clock at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, North Augusta, SC. Final Prayers and Farewell Commendations will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown, RI., at a later date. Pallbearers will be cousins Joseph F. McEnness, Paul Manning, Nephews; Gregg Hemann and Ryan Hemann; and friends Jan Bethke and Marvin Morrison. The family would like to thank the Alliance Hospice Agency for their care and comfort over these last several months, and a special thanks to nurses Robyn and Nellie for the love they shared with Katherine each visit.
