Mary Lundy Camden, Maine Obituary

Mary Lundy

CAMDEN……………Mary Louise Lundy, 96, widow of Warren J. Lundy, died on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Pen Bay Medical Center after a brief illness and is now with her Lord and Savior. Born in Sullivan, Indiana on October 9, 1925, Mary Lou was the daughter of Alva Newton and Vera Louise (Brown) Taylor. Raised on a farm during the depression, she embodied the tenants of hard work and frugality. One of her favorite sayings was, “A job worth doing is a job worth doing well.” Mary Lou loved her family dearly, especially her two brothers Richard and Tom. Throughout her life on a daily basis, she treasured the memories of her childhood and simplicity of farm life. She received her registered nursing degree at Union Hospital School of Nursing in Terre Haute, Indiana, and served as part of the U.S. Army Cadet Nursing Corps. She was reunited with her childhood friend, Warren J. Lundy, after his return to Indiana from active combat throughout Europe and Germany during WWII. Warren and Mary Lou were married on October 10, 1947 in Terre Haute, and were later blessed with two children, Jim and Linda. Warren’s 37-year career with US Rubber/Uniroyal, lead to family relocations throughout Indiana, Illinois and eventually Southbury, CT. Throughout that time, Mary Lou worked in hospitals, physician’s offices, and perfected the art of homemaking. Forever a nurse at heart, she continued reading medical journals and providing care for others well into her 90’s. In 1985, Warren and Mary Lou moved from Southbury, to Rockport, ME, where they lived many years before relocating to the Quarry Hill retirement village in Camden. Mary Lou was an active member and supporter of various non-profit organizations throughout her life. During her time in Maine, she was a member and volunteer at the John Street United Methodist Church in Camden, Merryspring Nature Center, and the Rockport Garden Club, where she served as President. An avid horticulturalist and lover of wild flowers, Mary Lou left behind beautiful and bountiful gardens from the Mid-West to New England. Her starters and cuttings will live for generations to come in gardens throughout the Mid-Coast. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Warren J. Lundy, her son James Thomas Lundy, brothers, Richard and Tom. She is survived by daughter, Linda Lundy and her companion, Jeffrey Merrill of Thomaston;daughter-in-law, Connie Lundy of Appleton; grandchildren, David and Helena Yarosis of Rockport, Jason and Jennika Lundy of Yarmouth, Sean and Sarah Engel of Gorham, and Laura Engel of Thomaston; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Miranda Yarosis, Leo and Liv Lundy, Maddox and Haven Engel, and Aidan Curit. Also surviving is her friend and caregiver, Valerie Stevens. By her bedside table she had the following hand written reminder: “Live Simply, Love Generously, Care Deeply, Speak Kindly and Leave the Rest to God.” A graveside service will be held October 24th at the Seaview Cemetery, Outer Russell Avenue, Rockport with the Rev. Michelle Wiley officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the Rockport Garden Club Scholarship Fund, PO Box 784, Rockport, ME 04856. Memories and condolences may be shared with the Lundy family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
