James Moultrie

James Moultrie (known as J. R.), son of the late Boyd Ray and Ernestine Moultrie Hayward was born on September 27, 1940 in Charleston, South Carolina. He entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at his home in Charleston, South Caroline.   James attended Henry P. Archer Elementary and Burke High Schools.  During his childhood, he attended Green Chapel Baptist Church.
     
     At a very young age, James volunteered to serve his country  and bravely enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.  After leaving the military, he moved to New York City.  Soon he was gainfully employed as a delivery driver a florist. He quickly learned how to navigate through the New York city traffic and often spoke of how he could get from uptown to downtown in 7 minutes flat.
  
  As much as he enjoyed driving that van he knew he had to leave once he saw an opportunity to work as a conductor for the New York City Transit Authority.  
   He would work several years as a conductor before ultimately getting promoted to the postion of Motorman.
     
     James leaves to treasure his memory: Lillie Moultrie, 
two daughters, Deborah Watkins, Robin Ford and her husband Calvin Ford, his Son Pastor Michael Moultrie and his wife Sharon Moultrie, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, along with one sister, Earline Smalls, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
   The Making of a Man

  James was a person that displayed many of the highest qualities of a human being:
   After retirement, J.R. returned to Charleston, South Carolina and  became a school bus driver for a brief duration.  Occasionally he would  treat his students to a  breakfast meal, because he did not want any of them to enter school hungry.

Socially connecting with people was J.R. special gift.  Actually he knew most of his neighbors by their names and appreciated living among them.  His  [✋]  hand was extended to anyone in the neighbourhood who needed his help.
 J.R. continued to spread his love among his immediate and extended family.  He would reach out and touch everyone through calls, visits, cards, and/or purchase gifts. Mostly, J.R. was an exceptional individual who set goals and worked diligently to accomplish them. 
He was not afraid to face difficult challenges  and was a problem solver.   Traveling throughout  the United States  in his various auto vehicles was one of his great benefits from  the fruit of his labor. J.R. enjoyed social activities and lived a lifestyle of fun with family and friends. He had a sense of humor that would make you laugh out loud.  Plus he enjoyed his favorite beverages/cocktails. 
J.R. lived life as the Bible requires.

He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your GOD.

 
                       I'm Free
Don't grieve for me for now I'm free. I'm following the path God laid for me. I could not stay another day to laugh to love to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.  I found that place at the close of day. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.  Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.  Lift up your heart and share with me.  God wanted me now, he set me free
