Pamela Jean Moore

Doctor Pamela Jean Moore passed away peacefully on October 10, 2021, with family by her bedside after a courageous battle with cancer. A caring daughter, sister, and aunt as well as an accomplished medical doctor, she was a friend and mentor to many.

Born in North Adams, Massachusetts in 1949, Pamela spent her childhood in Pownal, Vermont. She attended Mount Greylock Regional High School in nearby Williamstown, Massachusetts, where she excelled in academics, languages, and music. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in French Literature from Bennington College in 1971, Pamela completed postgraduate premedical studies at the University of Vermont and the Sorbonne University in Paris France, before enrolling in Albany Medical School where she earned her Medical Degree in 1980. After completing a residency program in Family Medicine, Pamela spent several years in private practice in Maple Shade, New Jersey, specializing in family medicine. In 1990 she began to transition her medical practice to Psychiatry, which included a residency program in Psychiatry and postdoctoral teaching positions at University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Yale School of Medicine. In the early 1990s, Pamela joined the medical staff at the Connecticut Valley Hospital - Addiction Services Division, Blue Hills Campus (Hartford), where she treated low income and underserved patients suffering from alcohol and other drug dependencies. Pamela was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as specialist in Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Before she retired from Blue Hills in 2018, she achieved the distinction of Lifetime Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association (APA) for her dedication to the work of the APA and allegiance to the psychiatric profession.

Outside her professional life, Pamela had many diverse interests and hobbies. She was a talented musician who developed a passion for classical music at an early age. She enjoyed collecting masterpieces by famous classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven and performing them on her violin and baby grand piano. She also enjoyed attending concerts by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Pamela also had a deep love of France and its language and culture. In addition to studying in Paris for several years, she often traveled to France to immerse herself in its art, music, and literature. Pamela also enjoyed meeting with her local French-speaking friends on Saturday mornings at a local Wethersfield café where they conversed in French on a wide-range of current events and topics of mutual interest. Pamela also adored animals and had a special place in her heart for her three bichons frises, Jolie, Monique, and Isabella. She was an active member in the Bichon Frise Club of Southern New England and frequently attended its dog shows and social events. Pamela was also an active and longtime member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in West Hartford, Connecticut, where she enjoyed teaching children’s bible classes.

Pamela is survived by her brother Randy Moore and his wife Anne, and their two children, Jack and Emily, and several cousins. Pamela was predeceased by her parents, Dexter J.C. Moore and Jayne Marie Moore, and her sister, Patti Lynne Moore.

A visitation will be held on May 6, 2022 between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home located at 34 Beaver Road in Wethersfield, Connecticut. A memorial service will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church located at 1655 Boulevard, West Hartford, Connecticut on May 7, 2022 beginning at 11:00 AM. Pamela’s cremation urn will be interred on a later date at the family’s burial site in North Adams, Massachusetts during a private family ceremony, which is the final resting places of her father, mother, sister, and beloved Bichons.
