Mary L. Stanko Obituary

Mary L. Stanko November 11, 1928 – May 24, 2018 Mary L. “Toots” Stanko, age 89, resident of Aurora, CO since 2014; formerly of Colorado Springs, CO, Centennial, CO, Albuquerque, NM, and Pueblo, CO, passed away May 24, 2018 surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and devoted caregivers at Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence. Mary was born on November 11, 1928 in Pueblo, CO. She attended Central High School and, soon after graduating, married Clarence “Babe” Stanko on November 19, 1946. Throughout her married life, “Toots” was an outstanding homemaker until her declining health forced her to retire. She was well known for her fine cooking and baking, as well as keeping an immaculate home; a standard that few could achieve. She was also an excellent seamstress; sewing her own clothes, those of her daughters, dance costumes, draperies, and many other home accents. She also enjoyed knitting/crocheting/needlepoint, gardening, golf, and was especially passionate for contract and duplicate bridge. Achieving Bronze Life Master was a particular source of pride for her. Mary is survived by her daughters: Marge (Eric) Jumper and Annie (John) Molzer; her grandchildren: John (Patty) Jumper and Christine (Brad) Barnhorst; great grandchildren: Sara, Zoe, Ricky, Audrey, and Laura Jumper and Marcy and Isabel Barnhorst. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; parents, Anna and Tony Barbick; brothers, Anthony “Sonny” and William "Bill" Barbick; and sisters, Anna and Dolores Klun. The family would like to express their gratitude for the staff at Garden Terrace. In addition to excellent, compassionate nursing care, Mary’s various interests for crafts and cards were fostered by Chrissy Walker and the staff of the Activities Department. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at All Souls Catholic Church, 4950 S. Logan St., Englewood, CO 80113. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Food Bank at All Souls Catholic Church or charity of your choice.
