<p>Michael Thomas Poynor, 78, of Waxahachie Texas, gained his eternal reward on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. He was born on March 4, 1943, in Dallas, Texas.</p><p><br></p><p>Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Naoma Poynor.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife, Cindy, son Brek Poynor and wife Alissa, daughter Mandy Hillner and husband Dan. </p><p>He was a Papa to five adoring grandchildren: Oliver Poynor, Caroline Poynor, Quinn Hillner, Elliot Poynor, and Emmie Hillner. He is survived by loving in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews. </p><p><br></p><p>Mike graduated from The University of Texas in Arlington, and entered the service after where he was a Major in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. </p><p><br></p><p>He met the love of his life while they were both working at Six Flags. They married January 31, 1970, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage. </p><p><br></p><p>He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The University of Houston. He lovingly served his patients for over 40 years before retiring in 2018. He was excited to enjoy traveling with his wife, and spending as much time as he could spoiling his five grandchildren. He loved all things outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He went on multiple medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic. </p><p><br></p><p>Mike had a great love for the Lord. He was an active member at the Brown Street Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder for 20 years. He had a huge heart and a compassion for everyone that he came in contact with. He was often the first one who would quietly step forward to help anyone who was in need. </p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 10-12. The service will follow beginning at 12pm in the auditorium at the Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie, TX. Burial with be in Bluffton, TX on Monday October 18, 2021. </p><p><br></p><p>Children held a special place in Mike’s heart. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Brown Street Church of Christ and designated for Education, Children’s Ministry, or Youth Ministry at 2471 Brown Street Waxahachie, TX 75167.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
