Kevin Charles Warapius Obituary

Kevin Charles Warapius, 66, of Woodway, passed away on October 12, 2021, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. A memorial visitation will be 6 to 7:30 P.M.  followed by a rosary at 7:30 P.M. Friday, October 15, 2021, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home. The memorial mass will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 16, 2021,  at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church.

Kevin was born July 21, 1955, in Evergreen Park, IL, to Arthur and Elizabeth Warapius. His early years were spent in Chicago, and then the growing family moved to Woodridge, IL, from where he graduated high school. Kevin followed his older brother, Glen, to the University of Notre Dame, where he studied Civil Engineering and played trombone in all of the different bands and graduated in 1977. He was there during the glory days of Joe Montana and Rudy and retained a lifelong love of all things ND Blue and Gold! He continued his education at UC-Berkley, earning a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering in 1978. After one winter back in Chicago, he returned to the Bay Area, where he worked for EDS Nuclear. Kevin met his wife, Ann Aldridge, at a happy hour in San Francisco, and they married on January 1, 1982, in Santa Cruz, CA. They soon moved to the Chicago area, where John Arthur was born; Ft. Worth, where Thomas Shelton and Samuel Robert were born; Atlanta, Raleigh and back to Atlanta, as he climbed the corporate ladder with Impell Corporation/ ABB/ Vectra Technologies. In 1996, the nuclear energy industry took a steep downturn, and Kevin switched to the structural steel business. Hunt Construction in Valdosta, GA, hired him as Vice-President, to which he brought his big company organizational talents. In 1999, Kevin finally moved the family back to Texas, when he went to work for Sturdisteel in Waco, designing grandstands & bleachers. Ann was so happy to be back in Texas! Sturdisteel was lucky to have Kevin’s dedication, knowledge, and management skills for 22 years.

The family enjoyed camping, water and snow skiing, and boating. Kevin was involved with BSA Troop 497 for many years and was so proud when Tom and Sam joined him in attaining the Eagle Scout rank. Winemaking was another interest, but his true passion was sailing. Kevin and Ann chartered boats several times in the Virgin Islands, but his final trip was 8 days in the Sea of Cortez in August.

Kevin and Ann were members of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, where Kevin was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Warapius.

Survivors include his sons John (Dori) of College Station, Thomas (Rachel) of Woodway, Samuel (Brittany) of Ft. Worth and eight grandchildren (Elizabeth, Katelyn, Russell, Gracie, Benjamin, Heidi, Leo & James,) his siblings Glen (Cyndie,) Gale (Mario,) Karen (Peter,) and mother, Elizabeth, plus many nieces and nephews & cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and techs of 4 South at Providence Hospital, where Kevin spent his final 16 days, and to Providence Hospice for their support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Notre Dame scholarship fund, 40 Days for Life, or a cancer research organization.
