James Carter Presley

James (Jim) Carter Presley, age 79 of the Hurricane Creek section of Vansant, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Born October 11, 1942, at Vansant, Virginia, he was the son of the late Douglas and Kathleen Gregory Presley. Jim was a lifelong resident of the area. He enjoyed hunting, farming, listening to bluegrass music, road trips, and collecting. He recently completed the United States license plates. He served in the United States Army, then the Army Reserves, and worked for years at the family sawmill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kelly Presley and wife Gay of Manassas Virginia and Willard Clifton Presley; two sisters, Helen Pauline Presley; an infant sister; and a great nephew, Shane Presley. SURVIVORS INCLUDE: Brothers Woodrow Presley of Vansant, Virginia Harry Presley and late wife Juanita of Vansant, Virginia Nephews Allan Presley and wife Rita of Vansant, Virginia Ricky Presley of Vansant, Virginia Ronnie Presley of Manassas, Virginia Niece Freda Powers and husband David of Vansant, Virginia Great Nephew Alex Presley of Vansant, Virginia Step-Great-Niece Tara Thayer and husband Richard of Lebanon, Virginia Step-Great-Great Nephew Collin Thayer Funeral services for Jim Presley will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, 11:00 A.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia with Jim Duty, Garnell Gilbert, Barrett McGlothlin, and Jeff Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in the Presley Family Cemetery, Route 600 Hurricane Creek Road, Vansant, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home, where a service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Serving as pallbearers will be Allan Presley, Ricky Presley, David Powers, Alex Presley, Steven Owens, and Randall Turner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Tiller and Richie Edwards.
