Your Life was a Blessing Your Memory a Treasure You are Loved beyond words and missed beyond Measure Early Wednesday morning, October 6, 2021, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin peacefully drifted into eternal life. Murna Teresa Williams was born to Vernald O. and Maude Gillman on October 16, 1935, in New York City. She was the 5th of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Seymour, Kenny, Cete, Vern and George; and two sons, Joey and Louie. Murna was a product of the New York City public school system, graduating from Julia Richman High School. She worked for Off-Track Betting, retiring after 25 + years of service. Murna attended Abyssinian Baptist Church and was a member of the choir for several decades. Murna had a great love for track and field. As a sprinter, she excelled at the 100 & 200. Her career as a coach spanned well over 50 years. She was an assistant coach for the Queensbridge Gazelles Track Club and the head coach for Abyssinian Baptist Church Track Team. Her crowning achievement was as organizer of the ABC Louie Anthony Williams Memorial Track Meet, in honor of her beloved son. She also established a scholarship in his name. Murna T. was a force of nature. One that will never be forgotten. Leaving to cherish her memory are her sister Hope; her children Michael (Hazel), Toya and Wayne (Karen); 13 grandchildren Anthony, David, Mark, Shateia, Mike Jr., Aisha, Precious, Joaquin, Alisha, Sparkle, Tariq, Ashley and Jasmine; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and beloved friends. Viewing will be from 3:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Congo Funeral Home, 201 N. Gray Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19805. Celebration of Life Service will begin at 4:00 PM.
