Leonard Aubra Evans Obituary

Leonard Aubra Evans, 78, passed away while surrounded by his family at his residence in Petal on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Carterville Baptist Church with interment in Forrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Aubra was a lifetime member of Carterville Baptist Church. He had always been active with the City of Petal. Most notably, he served the City of Petal for thirty-two years on the Petal Fire Department with twelve of those years as Chief. He also was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was the owner of A Car Opener. One of his favorite things was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Isabelle Evans; a brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Dorothy Evans; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma Nell and J. O. Lee; and sister-in-law, Linda Evans. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Marilyn Evans of Petal; a son, Tony “Otis” Evans of Petal; two daughters, Angela (Dennis) Lumpkin of Atlanta, GA, Tracy (Steve) Steckler of Carriere, MS; a sister, June (Dave) Lockett of Petal; three brothers, Arba Evans of Petal, Cleon (Wanda) Evans of Moselle, Carl (Mary Lee) Evans of Huntsville, AL; nine grandchildren, Ryan Lumpkin, Kyle Lumpkin, both of Atlanta, GA, Shelby (Glenn ) Sanford, Lacy Evans, Kelsie Evans, all of Petal, Caitlin Jordan of Boone, NC,Steven (Marion) Steckler, Shane (Chelsea) Steckler, both of Madison, MS, Skye (Morgan) Steckler of Covington, LA; seven great-grandchildren, Madison Lumpkin, Delilah Sanford, Tucker Sanford, Elora Steckler, Graham Steckler, Thomas Steckler, Addison Steckler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for Aubra will be 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Carterville Baptist Church on Friday, October 15, 2021. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Petal Fireman’s Benevolent Fund, 102 Fairchild Drive, Petal, MS 39465 or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
