Jean Elizabeth “Beth” Sperry Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Jean Elizabeth “Beth” Kay Sperry, age 90, was in her home surrounded by her family when she peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father on October 10, 2021.

Mom was born on December 12, 1930 in Mona, Utah to Cleon W. and Norma Jones Kay. She was the second of seven children. She attended school in Mona and graduated from Juab High School in Nephi. She married William L. Sperry on February 22, 1950 in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with five children. They were able to enjoy 54 wonderful years together before Dad passed away on March 20, 2004.

Mom worked at JC Penney, the Telephone Co., Feminique Dress Shop and Rancho El Rae, where she designed her own trailer that would hold many camping memories.  She was secretary at Juab High School where she retired after 25 years.  She was known as “BKS,” her famous signature. She loved all the students and made many lifelong friends.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings, including Primary President, Sunday School Secretary, Young Women Leader and Visiting Teacher. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and love for her Savior.

She belonged to the Nautilus Literary Club for over 50 years and loved all of the members. She volunteered at the Juab County Fair where she enjoyed being over the flowers for many years. Mom loved her family and supported her children and grandchildren in everything they were involved in. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and brought her the most joy.  She was known for her beauty, inside and out.  She always had a smile on her face that lit up the room.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Alicia) Sperry, Linette (Mike) Smith and Linda (Mark) Greenhalgh, both of Nephi. Mom was affectionately known as Grandma Beth to 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Marie (Richard) Howell of Mapleton, Donna (Bill) Jasperson of Goshen, Diane Houston of Spanish Fork, Becky (Jim) Nelson of Lynndyl; brother Randy (Darlene) Kay of West Jordan; brother in-law Max Sperry of Salt Lake City; sister in-laws Nancy Sperry of Nephi and Kathy Sperry of Boise, Idaho. Preceded in death by her husband Bill; infant son Kay Lamont Sperry; infant daughter Elizabeth Sperry; grandson Wes Sperry; infant great great grandson Colton Lloyd; her parents; brother Kent Kay and a very special friend, Gil Houghton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18th at 11 a.m. in the Nephi 7th Ward Chapel, 222 South 100 East, Nephi, with a viewing one hour prior. Friends and family may also call on Sunday, October 17th from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W 300 N in Nephi. Interment, Mona City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Central Valley Home Health and Hospice. A special thank you to Gloria Wickel, Julieann Parkin and Dr. Mark Oveson. We would like to thank all of you for your many acts of kindness.
