Geneva Harris Roper Obituary

Geneva Harris Roper 82 passed away peacefully at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital on October 10, 2021 with her son Mark near her side. Born in Johnston, South Carolina(Edgefield County) on June 19, 1939 to the late Deacon Hubert Harris, and Mary (Ryans) Harris. In her early years, she worked on the farm, Reigel Textile Mills, and later Beason's Cleaners until her retirement. She committed her life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend W.C. Sanders at the Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, the Willing Workers and worked in the church wherever needed. She was a faithful church member until she became ill. Geneva attended the public schools of Edgefield County, and graduated from the Edgefield County Colored High School, which was later changed to W.E. Parker High School. Gen enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, going to concerts, and meeting people. She met and married the love of her life, Sylvester Roper, who preceded her in death May 1995. Their union established a family united in faith and love. Unto this union two children were born; a daughter, Shamona Adell, who preceded her in death; and a son, Mark. She later raised two girls whom she loved as her own.. She also adopted her sister Lenora's (Doll) grands as her grands, Kandance, Aaliyah, Kerri (Doll). She will be missed by many. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Roper; her daughter, Shamona Adell Roper; her parents, Deacon Hubert Harris and Mary Ryans Harris; her sisters, Rosa Bell Coleman, Annie Mae Holloway, Maggie Lee Patterson, and Lenora Oliphant; her brothers, Elliott Harris, Sr., Bennie Harris, Hubert L. Harris, and Deacon Elijah Harris; and Rev. James Arthur Harris, who was raised as a brother. She leaves to cherish precious memories a son, Mark Roper of Georgetown, SC; one sister, Carrie J.(Frank) Daniel of Ward, SC; one brother, M.C. (Phoebe) Harris of Rosedale, NY; bonus grads, Caitlyn and ShaKayla Greggs of Georgetown, SC; one bonus great grand, Isabel Greggs, Georgetown, SC; a sister-in-law, Ora Mae (Jack) Jones of Eureka, SC and Mary Elizabeth (Wyman); and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, other relatives, friends and neighbors; also Tynicia and Rynicia Mozee who she nurtured and loved as her own.
