Mary Louise Mitchell Floyd Orange Park, Florida Obituary

Mary Louise Mitchell Floyd

Mary Louise Mitchell Floyd was born on May 10, 1935 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2021. In life and in marriage she was a faithful woman. All who knew her felt the warmth of her love and care. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years and was a dedicated student of the word of God. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville for close to 65 years serving the Lord by serving people in nursery, in women's groups and Sunday school in various capacities. She was a very independent woman but would quickly let you know that she was completely dependent on her God. At family dinners she was known for her Orange Congealed Salad. While she leaves a hole in the hearts of those she has left behind, she is now experiencing the fullness of life promised to her as a daughter of the King saved by His blood. Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Avanda Willard Floyd, Sr. as well as her youngest son, Luke Floyd. She is survived by her oldest son, A. W. (Mardo/Van) Floyd, Jr. (Bonnie) and their son Aaron, her daughter Elizabeth Logan (David) and their children Daniel, Ruth Ann (Matthew), Sarah (Cory), Nathan (Cassandra), Rebekah (Michael), Joshua and Mary and her youngest son’s loving wife Sarah Floyd and her daughters Elizabeth, Naomi and Mary. She also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren whom she adored, Anabella, Wayne, Elliot, Roger, Brantley, Violet, Lian, Weston, Everleigh, Bryce and Fiona. Funeral services for Mary Louise Floyd, 86, will be held 2 PM, Friday, October 29, 2021 in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sullivan officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday, prior to the service from 1 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home. As I sit by the fireside on a wintry night, Leasurily reclined in the old comfort chair, My thoughts roaming at a terrific flight, I think of one to me most dear. One who was ever kind and true, Who was always ready with soothing song, Always seeking some good to do And right anything which was wrong. My thoughts on this friend, doth dwell, Who’s life was as sweet and pure As the lilies which bloom in the dell, And more useful to be sure. Always ready with sound advice To all who were in doubt, Capable and willing to sympathize When sorrow and fear hovered about. All through life her burdens she bore As a child of our Savior Divine, As a stately ship from shore to shore, Steadily she went with the wane of time Banishing all sorrow with words of love, Which came direct from a noble heart, Tempered by a power from above. She was never slow to take her part. But then I noticed a chair unoccupied, A sweet voice no longer heard, Brightness seems diminished around the fireside And happiness seems to be blurred. An angel face is no longer seen, Capped by a wealth of glossy black hair, With hazel eyes large and serene, And heavy arched brows, ever so rare. Yes, death had come with his dreaded sythe And bore this loved one away To a Land far beyond the skies, Yet it seems she had not gone to stay. Sweet and beautiful was that death, She feared not to answer the call, Only grieving for those who would be left, Without a care of one who is all. Back to the bedside my thoughts doth run, To the dying words interwoven with love: ”Walk the straight and narrow path my son, And meet me and Heaven above.” She then left this old world in strife, Hardships were forgotten and left behind, By faith and obedience, had gained eternal life, Where angels about the throne entwine. I often wonder if another can be found To replace this friend, to me so dear, To make my heart with joy rebound, As in the days when she was here. But then I think of the many traits she possessed; A Ah, surely there can be no other Who would endure so great a test, And take the place of mother.
