Wm. Terry Starkey Jr., age 82, of North Pole, Alaska passed away on Monday, October 11th, 2021 from Parkinson’s and dementia.

Terry was born on April 13th, 1939 in Nashville, TN and raised there. He attended Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN where he received a BA in Industrial Technology. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army where he was assigned to his dream duty station, Ft. Wainwright. He served his Country Honorably from January 1964 – October 1965 and received a sharpshooter’s badge and a letter of appreciation from Chief John W. Poteet. After serving in the Army, Terry moved back to Tennessee and worked at his own printing business, S&M Printing services. He then moved to Illinois where he had Valley Combustion that serviced schools and greenhouses.

Upon returning to Alaska, Terry worked in purchasing and contracting, manufacturing supervision, and head salesman at GVEA. He was also a printer with his sister and brother-in-law in Tennessee and Kentucky. He was a printer at Graphic North in Fairbanks. For side work, Terry like to do carpentry, woodworking and auto diagnostics and repair.

Terry lived in Alaska for 33 years and was married on February 5, 1970 to Sharon Ocella Anderson in Fairbanks. Terry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who did the best for his family, friends, and strangers.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Sharon O. Starkey of North Pole, sister, Ruth Starkey Root of Nashville, TN, son, Jason A. Starkey, grandchildren, Anna, David, Layla and Aaron, and great grandchildren, Piper and Peter, all of North Pole. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Terry Starkey Sr. and Merle (Harrison) Starkey.

A memorial service will be held on October 30th, 2021, at 3:00pm at Fairbanks First United Methodist Church, 915 2nd Ave., officiated by Pastor Robert Jones.
