Domenick Thomas Cavallo Obituary

Domenick Thomas Cavallo, age 85, passed away on October 13, 2021 in his home with his family at his side.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his 4 children: Christina, Joseph (Anita), Jamie (Dr. David Renken), and David (Carl Martello); his grandchildren: Justin Renken (Callie), Hannah (Tyler Maxey), Sarah (Chris Dalian), Emma (Nick McNeilly), Lucia Renken, Sam Renken, Sophia Renken, Patrick Panyavong, and Kevin Cavallo; and his great-granddaughters, Rory Louise Maxey and Flora Panyavong.

Tom was born in East Orange, New Jersey. After high school he studied engineering at Newark College of Engineering and at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He began his professional career as a lab tech for the Edison Co. and had a lifelong fascination for the accomplishments of Thomas Edison. His next job was with W. R. Grace where he began his lifelong career in sales and marketing for the plastics raw material industry. He spent many years working for Celanese and Thermofil companies. He was a thoughtful and honest salesman. He studied the chemical properties of the various products that his company sold. He worked hard to ensure that he provided a product that would do what his customer needed. He loved his work and the people he worked with. He joined the Army National Guard- He was proud of his service and was disappointed that the demands of his work and his family did not allow him to continue serving.

He married Vincenza Jean Gagliardotto in 1960 and they raised four wonderful children. As his career advanced, he moved his family to Stow, Ohio, Livonia, Michigan, Matawan, New Jersey, Columbus, Ohio, South Bend, Indiana, Brighton, Michigan, Richmond, Virginia, and finally Ypsilanti, Michigan. He loved taking his family back to New Jersey every summer to enjoy the beach at Long Beach Island. He retired in 2001 and relished the time he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters. Jean died in 2010 and he had a difficult time. He tried to stay healthy by going to the Washtenaw County Rec Center and walking in Gallup Park. In 2012, he met Patricia Lynch at the Rec Center, and they married in 2015.
