Ruth (Rhode) DeWyre was born March 4, 1921. She was proud to have reached her 100th birthday! Living alone until a recent fall, Ruth was admitted to MediLodge for the last month of her life. Born to Garnet and Agnes (Probst) Rhode in Centreville, Michigan. Ruth was a hard-working young lady as she helped her parents on the farm after they moved to Sturgis, MI. Graduating from Sturgis High School in 1939, Ruth then decided to become a nurse and entered nurse training in South Bend, Indiana. In 2004 she attended her 65th class reunion. During the end of her nursing training a friend introduced Ruth to an Army soldier named Bill (William) DeWyre. They were married on Nov. 11, 1944. A few years after Bill was released from the service, they purchased a farm in Hawks, MI. That farm in Hawks was where thy raid their active family of five children: Jim, Mike, twins- Larry and Terry, and Judy. Rogers City hospital was on of the hospitals Ruth worked as a nurse, 25 years and Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo for 10 years as a surgical nurse. Finally, Ruth moved to Alpena, MI. to be near family and enjoyed many years here. She is a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and for a time was part of their quilting group. Ruth also knitted and crocheted and never gave up her love of making pies. Her oldest grandchild, Tim DeWyre was a recipient of many of those delicious pies. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Ruth leaves behind her children; James (Linda) of Alpena; Michael (Joy) of Wisconsin; Larry (Karen) of Rogers City; Judith Lincoln of Vicksburg; daughter in law Mary DeWyre of Midland; Eleven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Rhode, and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Her siblings, and their spouses; baby sister Helen Rhode, Robert Rhode, Dona (Lyman) Homan, Patsy (John) Cossairt, and Charles (Kay) Rhode; son, Terry, great granddaughter, Gracelyn, and son in law Steve Lincoln. Family will receive friends for visitation at McWilliams Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 P.M. Visiting will continue on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. James Erickson officiating. The family would like to thank Hospice of Michigan and Medilodge of Alpena for their wonderful care.
