Janis Susan Pottier Obituary

It is with broken hearts that our family sadly announces that Janis “Jan” Susan Pottier, 76 of Coldbrook, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on October 8, 2021. Janis was born and raised in Yarmouth and later moved to the Valley area. She was the daughter of the late Lindsay and Joan (Trask) Horton. Janis was always interested in health and ‘well-being’ and enjoyed various forms of exercise and fitness in her lifetime. She was a strong believer in family and has been referred to as the ‘Matriarch’ of her immediate family. She was deeply touched by each friend and family member that were always lovingly and supportively by her side. She was especially thankful for the food and kindness supplied by family and friends in her time of need. This was overwhelming! Jan was eternally grateful for her sister, Debbie’s guidance, home care and support throughout her journey. She is survived by her husband, Michael Pottier; daughters Darlene (Kirby) Walker and Tamara (Paul) Weir; grandchildren, Kody (Katelyn) Walker, Lindsay (Jennifer) Walker, Michaela (Chris) Smiley, Lacey Weir, and Nicole Weir; brothers Bruce (Barbara) Horton, Allan (Francine) Horton, Garnet (Dianna) Horton, and Mark (Theresa) Horton; sisters Mary (Donnie) Hiltz and Debra Deveau (Billy Crosby); and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janis was predeceased by her brother, Dennis. Jan was a faith filled person and a strong believer in ‘forgiveness’. Sweet is the rest and deep is the bliss of one who has freed their heart from its lusts, and hatreds and dark desires; and one who without any shadow of bitterness or selfishness resting upon them and looking out on the world with boundless compassion and love, can breathe, in their inmost heart, the blessing: Peace unto all living things, Making no exceptions or distinctions – such a person has reached that happy ending which can never be taken away, for this is the perfection of life, the fulfillment of peace, the consummation of perfect blessedness. ~ J. Allen Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation, and interment will be held in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Hospice Association or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
