Elinor Philip Hood Davies Obituary

DAVIES, Elinor Philip Hood (nee Scott)

Our lovely Elinor died in the early morning on Friday October 8th, 2021, in PEC Memorial hospital with her family, Bramwell, Martha, Philippa, Maggie and Edgar by her side to comfort her and partners, Minesh, Marcus, Dillan, and Jenna close by.

She died as she had lived with dignity and grace and responded to our comfort with smiles.

Elinor was a practicing artist all her life. Born in Paisley, Scotland, she attended Paisley Grammar School, and from there quickly secured work as a staff illustrator at the major department store, Fenwick’s, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Her admiring employer paid for the drawing and sculpture evening classes she was taking at Newcastle College School of Art. She and Bram moved to Bermuda in the mid-1960s where she was an illustrator at Trimingham’s department store in Hamilton, and also drew the cartoon for the local paper. In later years, after moving with the family to Canada, she designed Christmas displays for shopping malls across the country, working with her daughter Martha and Bram.

She spent most of her life with her husband Bram. They turned having fun into an art, and shared their enjoyment of life with their family and many friends in the UK, Bermuda, Toronto, Picton and in Salt Cay, Turks and Caicos Islands.

Mrs. Davies is resting with the Rushnell Funeral Home - Picton Chapel Ltd. 33 Main St. W. Picton (613-476-2450). A simple green burial was held at the Glenwood Cemetery’s natural forest, a short distance from Bram and Elinor’s home. We plan to plant something from the garden to commemorate the burial place.

To mark the anniversary of her death on October 8, Elinor Davies's family in Canada wish to invite you to share the many fond memories we have of our dear Elinor. We hope to let her artwork communicate her story, illustrating her inspirational life as a commercial and fine artist who was active across four continents for nearly 70 years.
