Lila Anne Mourie Obituary

Lila Anne Messick Mourie, age 83 of Ashtabula, OH, previously of Wilkes County, NC passed away on Sunday October 10, 2021 at Ashtabula County Memorial Center in Ashtabula. She was born August 31, 1938 in Wilkes County, NC to the late Renn and Rachel Eller Messick. Mrs. Mourie was a member at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Wilkesboro, NC.  She attended the First Baptist Church of Kingsville, OH where she was very active in church activities and church functions.  She was a devoted volunteer working with Hospice, a loving and devoted friend to her neighbors and vast array of friends in Ashtabula.  Never forgetting her roots in North Carolina, she made many trips each year back to her family and friends in North Carolina.

Traveling was one of Anne’s favorite things to do. She kept in contact with her late husband’s Naval friends by attending the annual Naval reunions, throughout the United States, since his passing in 2000.  Anne was always asking family or friends to join her on a simple day trip or an amazing vacation. Her thoughts of others was only one of her many attributes.  Her thoughts and kindness to everyone she met will be a lasting, cherished memory to those who knew and loved Anne.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, and loving husband, Dominic Mourie, and devoted brother, Hoit Messick of Boomer, NC.

She is survived by her sisters, Jeanette M. Haynes of North Wilkesboro, NC, Kaye M. Welborn of Wilkesboro, NC, nieces Linda J. Messick of Boone, NC, Catherine Messick of Boomer, NC, Tamara W. Bryant of Millers Creek, NC, one nephew, Richard Welborn and wife, Angie, of Millers Creek, NC and several great-nephews and one great-great-nephew.  Anne was a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend to many in both North Carolina and Ohio.

Anne was a master seamstress and one of her talents was quilting. On the numerous trips to North Carolina, Anne always brought one of her many sewing machines with her to mend, make or do whatever was necessary to adjust, alter or make over items for her family and friends in North Carolina. Anne was always thinking and planning what she could do to help her family in North Carolina and her extended family in Ohio.  She was a loving, and giving individual who put other first, especially her family.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Regina Hill of Ashtabula, OH for her many years of friendship and assistance that she lovingly gave to her friend Anne. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to Tommye Wiles of Ferguson, NC and Eileen McNeil of Millers Creek, NC for always being there when the need arose to lend a helping hand. Their loyalty and faithfulness are greatly appreciated.

Visitation for Mrs. Mourie will be Monday, October 18, 2021 at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with funeral services on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, in the Prayer Chapel, with Pastor Dale Jennings officiating and a short video from Pastor Kevin Brown.  The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 239 Champion Mt. Pleasant Road, Wilkesboro, NC  28697.
