Nicholas "Nick" Arhangelos

5/8/1942 – 10/12/2021 of Ypsilanti, Michigan


Nick, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on October 12, 2021. He was born May 8, 1942 in Ptolemaida, Greece, the son of Anthony and Eleni Voulelis. Nick came to the U.S. In 1955, at the age of 13, after being adopted by his Great Uncle, George Arhangelos. Nick's Great Uncle, at the time, owned and operated the Original Cottage Inn restaurant in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Nick immediately began working at the restaurant busing tables and making pizza. He attended Perry School where he first learned English. He moved on to Ann Arbor's University High School where he was on the wrestling and swimming teams.


In 1960 he joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served until 1965. Nick served on the USS Pocono with his Navy brothers. In the fall of 1965 he met his future wife, Kathleen Miller. They were married on October 28th, 1966. Nick realized his dream of bringing his mother and brothers to America and worked hard until the family was united here in the USA.


In 1969 Nick and Kathy opened Kolossos Printing in the basement of their house. In 1970 they moved their shop to downtown Ann Arbor, at 213 East Liberty. After five years at that location they had grown to need a bigger space. They moved to 310 East Washington where they remained for 31 years. In 2006 they moved to their present location on Stadium Boulevard. Nick always prided himself in keeping up with the cutting edge of printing technology.


Nick served on the St. Nicholas Parrish council and is a member of AHEPA.


Nick is survived by his wife, three sons, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren- Son, Anthony Michael Arhangelos and fiancée, Christeen King, grandchildren, Christian, Cameron and Nicole, Nicholas, Alexia and Timothy, Danielle, and Mia; great grandchildren, Margot, Jacy, Clade, and Isabella; son, Evan Nicholas Arhangelos and grandson, Timothy; son, Theodore Kenneth Arhangelos; and grandchildren, Zoe, Zurina, and Zaleah.


Nick is also survived by his brother, Michael Voulelis and sister in law, Anna Voulelis; nieces, Lena Busby and son, Grant; Maria and Stavros Malaveci and children, Illia and Gianna; as well as many cousins in Greece. His brother and sister in laws, Ken and Sandy Miller, their children, Alexandra and John Los.


Nick is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Eleni; his brother, George; and granddaughter, Zoe Katerina.


Nick's greatest joy was his family. His children and grandchildren will keep wonderful memories of grandpa playing, dancing and going on trips together.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 from 4-8pm with the Trisagion Service at 7pm at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, Michigan. The funeral service will take place Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 11am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3109 Scio Church Rd., Ann Arbor, Michigan. Interment will be held at Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
